Poundland signs with Hermes for online deliveries

Hermes have secured the contract to provide delivery services for Poundland. The announcement comes after Poundland announced the launch of their first online store last week.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hermes will provide a 4-5 working day delivery service to all UK-based consumers. The new online store offers over 2,000 products, including a mixture of household brands and Poundland’s unique ranges. The service will have no minimum order value and a flat £4 delivery fee per order will apply. Orders over £50 receive free delivery.

Poundland becomes the latest leading high street name to use Hermes’ extensive portfolio of delivery services and solutions, already utilised by a host of major retailers across the UK.

Whilst Hermes isn’t the fastest service it can be very cost effective and I’m receiving more eBay purchases via myhermes than I’ve ever had in the past. Is it a service that you’ve considered offering as an economy delivery option are do you stick to next day couriers and traditional mail services?

  1. The popularity of Hermes is a mathematical equation. They price themselves cheap so eBay Sellers looking to keep “Free P&P” costs to the minimum use them, ergo if you buy from eBay you see them more and more.

Yet I feel that Hermes is an excellent example of “you get what you pay for”, their weak link is the “delivery operator” who driving an “uninsured” private car for commerce and with their salary calculated on number of deliveries alone, may be the least conscientious delivery operator you might be unlucky enough to find. Who has seen the CCTV footage of a female My Hermes delivery operator throwing a parcel over a gate as far as she can WITHOUT even checking the gate was locked? I’m not saying they’re all like that but “a few bad apples” is enough. You get what you pay for.

So, I’ll open a book on whether we hear in the news in the run up to Xmas that Poundland is having problems with dissatisfied customers over deliveries.

  2. I have used MyHermes for my eBay business now for around 2 years and have had very few problems. Admittedly a small business where I send approx 700 – 800 parcels a year only had 1 thing go missing this year and a couple of breakages which were things like china mugs which any courier can break them. So been very pleased with the service they provide for the price.

I am able to drop my order off at a local shop when I need to, as opposed to waiting in line at the local post office for 10 minutes some days if I were to use Royal mail. Who only open 9 – 5 and also shut for lunch.
