Amazon to ban some Apple & Google products

No primary category set

Amazon Fire TVAmazon are going to ban sales of streaming media products from Google and Apple according to a report on Bloomberg.

The reasoning from Amazon is that “Over the last three years, Prime Video has become an important part of Prime, it’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion“.

Apple TV and Google Chromecast are massively popular devices, but of course you can’t stream movies from your Amazon Prime account on them. Roku, Xbox, and PlayStation products will still be allowed to be sold, but then they do of course support Prime movies.

Amazon have told retailers that listings for these products will be killed off on the 29th October and that no new offers for the banned items can be listed between now and then.

Amazon appears to be the retailer come marketplace where you can buy almost anything with next day delivery or streamed instantly to your media device… but only if it supports Amazon’s Prime products.

[We’ve not been able to confirm if this applies to Amazon.com, or whether the EU Amazon sites will also ban streaming video products which don’t support Amazon Prime, let us know if you’ve been notified]
