Amazon reserve stock for Prime customers

Tamebay reader Andy spotted that Amazon are reserving products exclusively for Amazon Prime Members. Certain products are appearing with an “Exclusively for Prime Members” replacing the normal Amazon Buy Box inviting non-Prime customers to try Prime free for a 30 day period.

Exclusively-for-Amazon-PrimeHaving been tracking an item for a couple of weeks, it would appear that Amazon change the products reserved fro Prime Members based on low stock levels. We’ve seen one product were at times different variants became reserved and others previously reserved reverted to being available for all buyers regardless of Prime membership.

This looks like a program to ensure that products Amazon deem to be popular will not only be in stock for their most loyal customers, avoiding them shopping elsewhere but also encourages consumers to sign up for their Amazon Prime program hopefully turning them into more regular buyers.
