ChannelAdvisor kicked off the Catalyst Americas 2016 conference today in Las Vegas, Nevada with Oakland A’s General Manager and the inspiration for the major motion picture Moneyball, Billy Beane. Mr. Beane presented on how to win against companies with bigger budgets, higher profiles and more manpower.
Baseball isn’t really my thing, so I was concerned that it was going to be riddled with baseball analogies and player stats. I wasn’t disappointed. But the story of how he turned around a failing baseball franchise by changing the traditional way of selecting talent and continuing to innovate – all by focusing on data – is a concept that can be applied to any industry.
Data and innovation will be a continuous theme throughout the rest of Catalyst 2016, with talks focused on SEO data, data feeds and consumer behaviour stats and strategies, as well as shipping logistics, international selling, branding and more
