eBay supported browsers as of April 2016

We received an email query at Tamebay HQ asking which browsers eBay currently support. The reader “Did a google search on this and it seems that there are issues when using internet explorer to prepare sales listings and to view eBay generally“.

We’ve checked with eBay and are pleased to report that Internet Explorer is still fully supported, but only if you have Internet Explorer version 9 or above. If you’re using an earlier version it’s time to upgrade or to consider using a different browser of which there are tons to choose.

eBay Supported Browsers

eBay full support the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, or Google Chrome* for Windows.
*The Resolution Centre isn’t compatible with the Google Chrome’s translation service in Google Chrome.

For MAC users eBay support the latest versions of Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox.

eBay Unsupported Browsers

eBay do not support Firefox 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and earlier for Windows, or Safari 4.1 and below for MacOS X and Windows.

Totally unsupported browsers include any version of Netscape, Opera browser, Microsoft IE for MacOS 9 and MacOS X, Microsoft WebTV, MSN TV, or MSN TV2, AOL for Mac OS 9

Any other browser which we’ve not listed is not officially supported and may or may not be fully compatible with eBay. However we know that mobile browsers such as the Android Internet Browser seem to work just fine.

  1. Getting the right browser for paypal postage can be a real pain depending on your printer.

  2. I bought a chrome book a while back as a spare, first day I tried to use it I was amending a eBay product description and each time I tried to save it failed, either said I had to offer paypal or add images or both.

It didn’t even cross my mind that eBay wouldn’t be compatible on a laptop bought in 2015.

  3. The issues are not the browsers its eBay’s website is just a mish mash of old and new code and glitches when they make an “improvement” something else breaks Friday maintenance is a prime example every other week they seem to introduce a new set of bugs that kill the sellers weekend sales

  4. Interesting that they don’t support Opera. For the last couple of years, Opera has used the WebKit rendering engine – the same one which powers Chrome, and is built on Safari’s engine – meaning that if they support Chrome, they should support Opera.

Older versions didn’t use it, so that’s fair, but from I think around v12 it’s WebKit based.
