Salesforce and DemandwareDemandware, who power websites for half the high street including Marks & Spencer, Mothercare and Lush, are to be acquired by Salesforce.

Salesforce have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Demandware in a transaction worth approximately $2.8 billion. Salesforce offer $75.00 per share in cash for all outstanding shares of Demandware for and the transaction is expected to close by the 31st of July 2016.

Salesforce are a cloud based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution. It is designed to help salespeople track and close leads. Companies such as Vax, Cocacola, Spotify and Currencies Direct use Salesforce. Now with the acquisition of Demandware they’ll capture the the sale itself saying that “Demandware, a recognized leader in the space, will extend the company’s CRM leadership and position it to capture this multi-billion dollar digital commerce market with what will be the new Salesforce Commerce Cloud“.

The two companies are a nice fit and almost certainly already have a ton of common customers.

Salesforce might sound like it’s a bit pricey but they have small business solutions starting from as little as £20 per month for up to five users. Demandware is a little bit higher end but make an absolute mountain of free cash, hence the relatively high offer price from Salesforce.
