Check your eBay account: have you been double charged?

No primary category set

Our best advice today is to check your eBay account and make sure that you’re being charged the correct fees. We’ve had several reports from eBay sellers that they’re seeing erroneous charges on their accounts. There are also some threads on the eBay Community Discussion Boards.

There seem to be several scenarios:

1) Sellers are being charged erroneously for revising items.
2) Sellers with free listings allowances are being charged to list.

We’ve put in a call to eBay to ask if they’re aware of an issue and asked what the best course of action would be. In the past when a similar problem has occurred eBay have made good on the errors before the invoices are issued and payment taken.

So it’s probably worth sitting on it for the time being before engaging in a long and frustrating correspondence with the billing team.

That said, we’d be interested to hear if you’ve been affected.

We’ll cover the topic again soon.

  1. I have been charged numerous fees for listing items and trying to get an ebay rep to understand is hardwork. I have provided them the link to this page and now they seem to be pulling their finger out of their backside to check but they seem to think my free allowance doesn’t apply

Just been informed that since 17th of August auto list is also now chargeable for sellers.

  2. I spotted it yesterday, when I revised an auction (just the item specifics) and was charged an additional £0.35 – both sets of fees for the one auction show in my account. I double checked the listing to see if eBay had accidentally added an additional extra (such as a second category), but no. I then went into the eBay forums and found a lot of people have been experiencing the same double charging.
Very unimpressed! I am keen to see how eBay deal with this one. How many people will be unaware, and how much will eBay profit from this convenient glitch?

  3. Discovered the other day that the free listing allowance only allows listing in one category, if you add a second category that one is chargeable. That’s not eBay’s fault, I don’t read t&c’s very often.

Also, if an item runs down to 0 stock and you go in and update the stock level it’s chargeable, in this instance £1.78, 2 categories 2 subtitles, to me, that’s a rip off.

  4. Always double check! My May invoice was for £25,000
Took me nearly two mouths to get a credit from ebay.
Also double check if you a using a third party lister e.g M2E Pro that they don’t add any fees like gallery plus.
