Royal Mail hits delivery targets

Royal Mail featRoyal Mail have hit their delivery targets for both 1st and 2nd class post for the first quarter of the financial year 2016-17.

Royal Mail delivered 93.35 of First Class mail the next working day against a target of 93%. They also also exceeded their Second Class mail target of 98.%, delivering 99.0% of this mail within three working days.

Sue Whalley, Chief Operations Officer, Royal Mail said: “Our postmen and women work extremely hard to deliver to some of the most demanding Quality of Service standards in the whole of Europe. We remain the only UK delivery company to publish our Quality of Service and we are proud to do so”.

Of course for online sellers this doesn’t mean too much unless your items are small and light enough for 1st or 2nd class post. If you’re using services such as Tracked 24/48 then your parcels fall outside these targets. Nonetheless, for those who do use 1st and 2nd class it’s still somewhat disturbing to realise that 7% of your first class packets being late will be devastating to your feedback. Plus on top of that, eBay suggest to buyers that 2nd class post will arrive much more swiftly than three days after posting.

  1. So if Royal Mail are delivering so much how come there are so many item not received claims on eBay.

Forget that we all know why 🙁

  2. Royal Mail by their own figures are late to deliver 6.65% of 1st class post and eBay allow 4% to be late to keep TRS guess that’s going to work then

  3. Our claims have been pretty high over the last 6 weeks for INR, and for the first time ever in 8 years, we are having issues with registered Post now not arriving.
I do think most Postmen do a really good job. The issue is the back office at RMG,and their total lack of ability to deal with problems.

  4. One day I got my post at just after 6pm by a postie I didn’t know. I asked the regular postie the next day and he said it was his day off and they had nobody to cover so his boss had to cover other rounds.

He also said that there is a massive pile of parcels at the sorting office that won’t get delivered for a few days.

I’ve noticed generally post has been slow of late. I sent something 1st class on a Monday and it didn’t arrive until Thursday.

Maybe RM are meeting targets but that’s easily fudged anyway.
