Sniping is the process of dropping a bid onto an eBay auction as late as possible. The only way you can win an auction is by bidding your maximum price and for your bid to be the highest placed. However by bidding late your hide your hand from any competing bidders and, by waiting until the last second to submit your bid, if they’ve not entered the maximum price they were willing to pay it’ll be too late for them to bid again before the auction ends.
It can of course be done manually and there’s nothing quite as exciting dropping a bid onto an auction 10 seconds before it ends and winning but with auctions finishing at all times of day and night you may not be sitting at your computer when it finishes. Sniping tools automate the process and whilst this does cut out some of the fun it does at least mean you won’t forget to place your bid and stand a higher chance of winning the lot at the lowest possible price.
