PayPal working to correct refund glitch

No primary category set

PayPal are working to finally correct all of the refund errors that arose from three week glitch which occurred at the end of October through to the beginning of November.

In an email they say: “We want to let you know we experienced a technical issue because of which some of your customers’ refunds were being held in error. The issue happened from 24 October – 13 November, 2016. However, we have reversed your costumers’ refunds.
We’re working to correct this issue with your impacted customers and have communicated with them about the issue. If this issue happens again, your customer can contact us by using the Help & Contact link on any PayPal page.
We apologize for any inconvenience or difficulties this issue may have caused you.
Thanks for your understanding. We appreciate your business
“.

The mis-spelt ‘costumers’ made us look twice at this email thinking it might be spam and we’re still unsure if we should take any action. Apart from acknowledging the glitch the email isn’t particularly useful – Refunds are reversed and PayPal have communicated with customers, so do I need to do the refunds again or will PayPal take care of them for me? If you’re any the wiser from the email we’d be happy to be enlightened.

  1. Received a similar email from paypal earlier this month relating to a specific refund. Not sure if this is the same issue as above, but here is quote from the email:

“From 16 to 23 November, you attempted a refund which failed due to a technical issue. We apologise for any inconvenience. The good news is that the issue has been resolved and you’re now able to refund the transaction, if you still need to.”

  2. Paypal is also not accepting payments from certain countries due to system problems.

We’ve got customers in Brazil, Israel, Hungary and South Africa who are currently unable to make paypal payments to us.

However, people in Turkey, who are no longer supposed to be able to pay via paypal, are still able to do so.

    Go figure.
