Meet the company: ListSmart

No primary category set

We would all love to have the perfect listing on eBay that appears highly ranked in eBay’s Best Match with a great conversion rate. eBay themselves have a ton of advice on optimising listings which includes sections on choosing a category, titles, descriptions, item condition, photos, format, postage options, mobile optimisation and even tips on getting your item found in search.

Unfortunately for most sellers it’s not creating the listing for the brand new product they’re about to list that is the difficulty, it’s the 100s of listings you already have live on eBay that we know all need optimising but where do you start? It’s easy to say that the more information you include or a greater number of images is better, but how do you measure success against eBay’s best practices which are a constantly moving target?

The best advice is to chase the money and make the changes which will result in the biggest return for your time and effort. ListSmart helps you sell smarter on eBay by giving you empiricial data to allow you to analyse your listings, prioritise actions based on the visibility impact, GMV potential and expected increase in conversion rate and then optimise your listings and measure your success. We asked the experts from ListSmart to tell us more about their service:

What does ListSmart do?

ListSmart is a listing optimisation app that provides detailed and category-specific listing recommendations for professional eBay sellers. Using highly advanced data analysis techniques and algorithms, ListSmart intelligently processes millions of eBay listings every day. It then creates constantly evolving, actionable listing recommendations that can be saved in the app. By tailoring our recommendations to sellers’ exact categories, they can catch up to, and stay on top of, their fiercest competition. The impact on listings’ visibility and sales is tracked inside the app, so ListSmart can learn which changes are most effective over time and prioritise these in future.

Why would someone use ListSmart over competitors?

ListSmart is a recommendation engine that uses artificial intelligence to identify specific changes sellers can make to their listings in order to remain competitive on eBay. This intelligent technology is available as a free web app. Simply enter your eBay ID and ListSmart will do all the legwork, finding the gaps between your listings and those of top sellers. These optimisation opportunities are refreshed every couple of days, so ListSmart’s recommendations are always up-to-date. You can also prioritise which listings to improve based on potential for improved visibility and sales, making ListSmart’s results highly focused.

What would your ideal customer look like?

ListSmart is designed specifically for eBay merchants, but what’s great is that whether you have one hundred or one hundred thousand listings, we can get you selling better. We recently helped a smaller merchant get back on his feet and into the eBay game in a matter of weeks. ListSmart can scale to accommodate the time and budget of any seller who is committed to catching his or her competition on eBay. Our studies show that the more often sellers optimise their listings, the better they perform. So, our ideal customer? Anyone willing to put in the effort to see results.

Which platforms do you support or integrate with?

We are fully integrated with eBay, so sellers can save and implement any changes they choose to make with ListSmart directly on eBay at the click of a button. We also allow users to save all their changes in the app and later download these in a spreadsheet format. While eBay integration has been our priority, over the coming months we aim to enhance support for sellers who use third party management platforms for storing their listing data.

Any announcements; strategies; or upcoming product releases this year or next?

We are constantly working to improve the look and feel of the app itself and fine-tune its features – a process we will accelerate over the coming months. New features will include recommendations on pricing, plus more measurement and analytics data to help customers prioritise listings based on the factors they value. For the convenience of higher volume sellers, we are working on a bulk update option so desired changes can be applied to a selection of relevant listings.

  1. Looking to give this a try, but no where to enter promo code. Before or after sign up ?

  2. This looked interesting so have just signed up for the free account, added one of my smaller ebay ids only has under 100 listings and program is whirring away and now tells me it has no data and to check back in a day or so – not as ready as it should be maybe me thinks……..

  3. Will ListSmart be able to pinpoint when and if our listings are being hidden ?
There are many stories, some from quite experienced sellers, of cases where their listings are not behaving in a way which they’d expect, unless they are being hidden or otherwise manipulated.

  4. Did try it before Christmas, seems a bit rubbish to me. Gives you recommendations like add more words to your listings title, description add EAN number or more pictures. Canceled my account and won’t be using any time again soon.

  5. Further to Tamebay post about ebay deleting one of their own articles in which a seller says not all best match results are shown to each individual, I have been pushing ebay for a simple transparent answer via their facebook page.

My post disappeared very quickly but after a day long exchange of messages, I received this

“As for how Best Match works, you’re right that not all listings are shown to all buyers. The system is designed to show each buyer the items most relevant to them. I’m sorry if you’ve been told otherwise and I’d like to be transparent here; not all buyers see all listings. I’d like to thank you for reaching out on eBay. ~Velvet”

So, regardless of how many item specifics we sellers complete, or how good our title and photos are, the listing is only seen by a prospective buyer if ebay deems it “most relevant”. Given their inability to write a decent piece of software, it does not fill me with much confidence. CS have previously denied that listings are not visible to all buyers and in another message “Velvet” from ebay admits that whether or not the item listing is “relevant” to the person searching, is beyond the control of the seller.

Please advise how Listsmart can help with best match, given that ebay dictate the visibility of listings to individuals?
