Ever increasing demand for Amazon Web Services (AWS), the firm’s cloud technology services continues to grow. It’s a vital profit centre for Amazon and they’re expanding their facilities.
An new data centre in Mulhuddart, Dublin is expected to be 20,739 sq metre and cost up to €200m. This will bring the total number of Amazon data centres in the Dublin area to ten. They already have four in Tallaght, South Dublin and another is being built near Dublin airport. Amazon are making a huge investment in the region.
And according to reports there are also provisional plans for Amazon to build another seven data centres in Dublin with an estimated spend of €700m.
AWS is growing in other ways too this week with the acquisition of a company called ThinkBox which helps mediate and entertainment media firms by making large systems for processing computer-generated graphics and video. They said on their site: “We’re excited to announce that we’ve been acquired by Amazon! We’ll be joining the Amazon Web Services family, and we’re looking forward to working together to deliver exciting customer offerings. At this point, it’s still business as usual for us. We’ll continue to provide you, our customers, with remarkable support whether you work on-prem, in the cloud or both.”
