India is one of the largest English speaking countries in the world, and at Pentagon‘s Retail Without Borders Conference I caught up with Shifali Singh, Vice President – International Sales at Myntra, to find out how UK retailers can sell to the country.
Myntra is the largest fashion ecommerce player in India, so if you sell clothes, shoes or accessories it’s time to take a closer look at the marketplace.
Indians are very fashion conscious, they’re hungry for global fashion but especially UK fashion as Britain is one of the top tourist destinations for the country. Having shopped in London, naturally consumers look for more fashion online (and in India that means on Myntra).
Shifali is realistic that there are challenges in cracking India for UK merchants, but due to the sheer size of the market the barriers to entry pale into insignificance compared to the revenues there to be won. Myntra are more than willing to work with suitable merchants to get them onboarded and to navigate the tax and import hurdles, they’ve helped many retailers launch on Myntra before and know what you’ll need to do to get started.
If having watched the video, you’d like to explore selling on Myntra, email [email protected] or meet her in person at the next Retail Without Borders or many of the other trade shows she regularly attends.
