Motor parts and accessories is a key category for eBay – if you need evidence, open eBay in your browser and look at the browser tab… it reads “Electronics, Cars, Fashion,…”. Cars are second demonstrating just how important motors business is to the marketplace.
It’s because of the massive business opportunities for motor parts and accessories that eBay are running the eBay Car Challenge again this year, for which entries are now closed. The response to the second eBay Car Challenge has been massive with double the number of entries compared to last year. The UK really is a nation of budding amateur restorers!
Popular models this year appear to be Land Rover, Morris Minor and VW, and the range of ages goes right back to the 1910s. eBay has received entries from across the country, from father and son teams, retirees and students, and a popular theme this year seems to be people hoping to restore their car ready for a wedding.
eBay is currently reviewing and shortlisting entries with the three selected projects due to announced early next month. You will be able to follow the journeys of the restorers at ebay.co.uk/carchallenge, watch the video to find out more and see last year’s resto projects.

I think its inspired marketing by ebay – well done; taking advertising on Quest with such programmes as Wheeler Dealers must be more cost effective than the main stream tv channels. Sourcing parts for older cars can involve much research and endless phone calls ; do it with a click of the button on ebay – good stuff.
Now ebay should look to expand the strategy in other areas; Weddings are an area with lots of potential ( my daughter used ebay extensively last september for table decorations and such ; so inspired was she that she flogged off most of the stuff on ebay afterwards!)
