NatWest had a slow down on payments just as the Bank Holiday weekend got under way as (as it always appears to be) just as people were expecting to see their monthly pay appear in their bank accounts.
Money was being transferred, at least it was disappearing from the paying account. The problem was it just didn’t appear in the recipients account. Even more frustrating for some NatWest customers who tried to ‘lend’ themselves some money from their savings account… their savings were debited but the credit wasn’t appearing in their current account.

NatWest assured all their customers that they wouldn’t be left out of pocket for any bank charges incurred through lack of funds. That wouldn’t have helped people who decided that they couldn’t afford to do their monthly shop through.
It’s bizarre that in 2017 we’re still regularly seeing banking problems of this nature. Surely by now, bank systems should be so resilient that payments just happen?

They are very keen to charge you £20 for going over limit for 24 hours as they did to me in April but I don’t suppose I can charge them for my account showing £500 less this morning than should actually be there! Thanks NatWest.
