Google has started to roll out the integration of PayPal with Android Pay. However, as it stands, the integration is only available in the US. And it seems unlikely that it will be coming to the UK any time soon.
With the latest update to the PayPal app, US users will get the option to link your Paypal account with Android Pay, which in turn will appear as an option in your Android Pay app. You will then need to set an instore PIN, and also decide what card or bank account PayPal should draw funds from, or you can use your Payal credit balance.
The integration comes in the form of a “virtual Discover card” which means you can use it only where Discover is accepted. So that’s going to limit the possibilities outside the US.
Android Pay is currently already integrated with the Bank of Scotland, first direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, M&S Bank, MBNA, Nationwide, Natwest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander, TSB and Ulster Bank. Barclay’s stubbornly refuse to play ball and are sticking to their bPay system.
