And now: Amazon Pay Places

No primary category set

Amazon has launched a new service called: Amazon Pay Places. The name does exactly what it says on the tin. You can pay using Amazon in places.

The first place to take Amazon Pay Places is the TGI Friday’s restaurant chain in the USA. Now customers can pay for in-store dining and order ahead using the Amazon app and grab their food on the go. This is clearly an initial integration and doubtless more and numerous partnerships will follow. Amazon customers at TGI Fridays in Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Richmond, Virginia, and Pennsylvania will be the guinea pigs with the new system.

You need the app to get involved. And you’ll be able to browse the menu on the app and make your choice. Then you can pay in advance to dine or head on over to collect your dinner.

It’s a fairly obvious service for Amazon to launch. They have app capabilities and can process payments too. Combining them on the high street just takes them into the realms of what services such as PayPal already offer. But it just shows, yet again, that there isn’t anywhere Amazon won’t try and go. Even if it becomes available at even a small number os international chains, Amazon Pay Places could be a huge profit centre.

One Response

  1. As a seller, knowing what Amazon are like, i.e totally buyer focused for everything, and sod the seller, I would not offer Amazon pay for ANY of our 3rd party run services such as website, or even in our shop.

All it would take is for the buyer to buy something, open a dispute, and Amazon will just go ahead and issue a full refund without looking at any evidence.

At least with a card company, they will see how the payment was made if a chargeback was placed, i.e chip and pin etc, I feel more protected by them, than I ever would using Amazon Payments.
