There are many tools to help you build your website – here we take a look at some of the key ones that you may come across and what they offer. This is a potted view and intended as a starting point, please do evaluate them all yourself to find the right one for you.
You can learn more in Section 1: Start of the DIY ECOMMERCE GUIDE
WIX: A new-comer to the scene in many regards, WIX though is one of the easiest and most intuitive to use, with a rich platform of features, more than 500 templates and fully customisable design. It comes with a free start up plan that includes 1GB of storage and can scale through a series of five pro-levels starting at around £8 per month. It is also mobile optimised.
GoDaddy: GoDaddy was one of the first to offer mobile optimisation and still does this very well. As well as the usual templates and customisation that is now standard with such tools, GoDaddy offers Extra storage space and, perhaps more importantly, Google Analytics baked in – so you can see what you are doing and how well it is working. It also features social media integration too. But it comes at a price. Simple web hosting is £2.99 pcm, while the top of the range, all-singing-all-dancing package costs £15.99.
1&1: 1&1 is a more high end tool that not only features hundreds of templates but also access to 20million images, a very power statistics and analysis tool and responsive design for any device. It has a simple drag and drop editor and up to 200 email addresses. It also has 24×7 technical support by phone, chat and email. But it comes at a price: Packages start at €6.99 pcm and range all the way up to €34.99 pcm.
SiteBuilder.com: More geared towards bloggers and freelancers, rather than ecommerce heads, SiteBuilder is free, has more than 1000 templates and comes with some cool SEO tools – but only on premium ecommerce plans – and pricing of these isn’t clear and, as you start to build, there are lots of upselling pop ups. It is very easy to use, however, with its neat drag and drop editor tool.
