The founder and CEO of Amazon Jeff Bezos is reportedly worth $100 billion dollars and the world’s richest man after Amazon’s stock price got a boost in trading after Black Friday.
Bezos is the biggest single shareholder in Amazon and with a positive report from Adobe saying that Black Friday sales were up roughly 18% the stock price ticked up 2% and estimates suggest that this ticked Bezos over the $100 billion mark.
This makes Bezos the richest person in the world, ahead of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. It makes Bezos the first person to cross the threshold since Bill Gates made it in 1999. The Microsoft boss has since given away significant sums.
Interestingly Bezos hasn’t made many significant donations to charity but earlier in the year he did make a plea on social media for bright ideas of how he could direct his future philanthropic efforts. We wrote about that here.
One thing that Bezos has been spending his money on is space travel with his Blue Origin rocket company. He’s cashed in roughly a billion dollars a year in recent years to keep the spacecraft development company going.
Amazon seems quite unstoppable right now and numerous pundits expect it to become the world’s first trillion dollar company and considering that Amazon stock has appreciated by so significantly this year that Bezos’s holdings have increased $32.6 billion in 2017 alone.
