There are reports that there have been problems with the advanced search system on eBay Canada when it comes to refining search results. The good news is that it looks like the problems have now been resolved.
Apparently, for some weeks, shoppers on eBay Canada have not been able to filter search results by attributes such as size, colour, style or brand as they go through search results.
An eBay announcement says of the problem: “Recently, the Advanced Search Refinements in certain categories were unavailable due to a technical issue. This issue has now been resolved, and refinements are now available. We thank you for your patience.”
It’s not clear which categories were affected, whether the issues were universal and seen by all users or whether all that widespread at all. But that eBay has made an announcement does suggest it was serious.
What is absolutely clear is that no other national eBay marketplaces were not impacted by these problems.
It’s always an annoyance when eBay’s search doesn’t work but it is also fair to say that these filter attributes are not, perhaps, as widely used by buyers as sellers might hope, as they scour eBay for what they want.
eBay has been showcasing new search functionality on eBay.com over the past few months but these changes haven’t been seen overseas.
Reform to eBay search is desperately required and we look forward to innovation and changes benefiting both buyers and sellers coming across the pond early in 2018.

An issue? I bet most people just thought this was another Ebay ‘improvement’….
Well strangely enough this coincides with our listing disappearing – we have two similar items in top 20 and 1 competitor selling same product
Day 1 item 1 disappeared (ie not to be found in top 500)
Day 3 item 2 disappeared (ie not to be found in top 500)
Day 5 Competitor item disappeared
Day 7 Competitor item reappeared
Day 9 item 2 reappeared
Still waiting on last one to come back – on phone once a week to ebay ireland
Weirdly – adding one further keyword brings back items in normal order
