Following the launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi last Friday, eBay has revealed a surge in Star Wars fancy dress consumers being sold on the site. With almost half of parents surveyed planning to gift fancy dress costumes to their kids this year, eBay has revealed the characters most likely to be put in an appearance this Christmas.
When it comes to dressing up, Brits have a preference for the blacks and reds of the dark side, with Stormtrooper costumes proving the most popular Star Wars get up over the last two years. The iconic Stormtrooper suit which has appeared in all 10 Star Wars movies has been searched for on eBay more than 20 times every hour since 2015.
Coming in second place is the ultimate dark lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, however on the light side Princess Leia comes in third place and over 125,000 Rey costumes have been sold on eBay in the last year alone.
What’s interesting here is how skilfully eBay are exploiting their partnership with Star Wars and in a similar way to the spike in pink Christmas trees after the eBay advert aired, their association with Star Wars through the Tie Silencer and commermorative notes is also bringing consumers to the marketplace.
