Which UK areas bought the most over Cyber Weekend?

No primary category set

Royal Mail has reported where the Cyber Weekend hotspots were in 2017. By analysing parcel volume sthey have been able to determine where the UK’s most passionate Shoppers were on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

East London tops the list, followed by Kirkwall (Orkney, Scotland), Llandrindod Wells (Wales) and Milton Keynes
The top ten is based on analysis of parcels accepted from retailers and businesses into the Royal Mail network between 20th November and 28th November weighted against the n7mber of delivery points in specific areas.

The top ten hotspots for Cyber weekend shopping according to Royal Mail are:

– East London
– Kirkwall
– Llandrindod Wells
– Milton Keynes
– Lerwick, Shetland
– Truro
– Carlisle
– Inverness
– Dumfries
– Exeter

Nick Landon is the Managing Director of Royal Mail Parcels and said “We’ve looked at parcel delivery data across our huge network of delivery offices and it has revealed East London as the UK’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday online shopping hotspot. We take the planning for the period between Black Friday and New Year’s Day incredibly seriously and start planning for next year the moment the current one is over. This year, on top of the huge number of processing and delivery sites we already operate, we have opened an extra six dedicated parcel sort centres to handle the additional volume we expect to be carrying.”

It is quite difficult to draw any particular conclusions from this information. But it’s clear that with four areas in Scotland (plus Carlisle) and two in Cornwall, that places more distant from London are taking advantage of online shopping as strongly as ever. And the fact that East London tops the charts suggests that the affluent people of the city, and maybe the millennials in the area, are as passionate shoppers on the web as ever and have fully embraced the Cyber Weekend.

  1. Nick Landon might want to take the overseas planning a bit more serious as it has caused a fair few problems with late delivery.
I do not think you can tell much from this. Rural areas are going to make more online orders, if you are anything like here there ain’t that many shops left. Pretty much anything we order is online these days.
We seem to sell a strange amount of things to Ashford for some reason.
