Marketplace Overview

Privalia is an online-fashion outlet which operates in Spain, Italy, Brazil and Mexico. Privalia organizes short, brand related campaigns that last between 3 and 5 days and registered members are invited to shop via an email message and mobile messages. The campaign based approach is popular with their members.

In addition to the flash sales campaigns, Privalia also offers a drop-ship programme for ecommerce brands and retailers. For this programme the shipping process is handled by the seller, and Privalia is an intermediary with a percentage commission. In order to participate, sellers must offer at least 50 products with a minimum discount of 30%, an order confirmation within 24 hours, customer service response within 24 hours and delivery between 2 and 5 days.

In Spain they have 8.5 million registered users and, in Italy, 7.6 million. 70% are women aged between 30 and 45 years old. 60% are medium to medium-high social status and earn between EUR 1,200 to 2,500 a month.

Seller registration and requirements

You can apply to be accredited to sell. The crucial point is that you are willing to offer deep discounts on your goods. There are no monthly fees, no sign-up fee and no deposit is required either. The only fees payable are commissions on successful sales that vary from 5% to 20%

UK sellers can benefit from a negotiated fee discount from the Department of International Trade (DIT). Find out more here.

Product listings and fulfilment

You’ll need to provide listings information and customer support in Spanish and Italian to successfully register. Sellers must also have a minimum of 300 SKUs and the capability to deliver to Spain or Italy in 5 business days. Fulfilment is made by sellers and tracked shipping is required. You’ll need local addresses to handle returns.

You can submit listings by API, CSV or an integrated multichannel provider.

Privalia is heavily mobile focussed and all about discounts. This makes the marketplace an attractive alternative for slow-moving and left-over stock you might have. Retailers need to ensure product availability and a minimum of 40% discount on their website product prices. In terms of product presentation, sellers can choose to be found only by product search or opt for a dedicated brand store.

Tamebay’s take on Privalia

Privalia is particularly popular in Italy and Spain and a well-known fashion store that should be on the radar of fashion retailers who want to make more more sales into Europe. But it’s likely not a proposition that’s going to work for smaller sellers. You must be willing to offer discounts. And have no doubt that Privalia is big news in Spain and Italy.

If you have you any experience selling on Privalia, please do share your experiences.
