The eBay owned marketplace Gumtree is looking to streamline car classifieds by combining operations with eBay Motors. It’s a two for one deal essentially for sellers with special tickles for dealers: if you list on eBay, you get visibility on Gumtree and vice versa.
Did you know that Gumtree is currently the fastest growing classifieds marketplace for motors in the UK? It has six million users a month visiting Gumtree Motors and 3.7 million users a month visit eBay to look for a new car. eBay is probably the UK’s number one second hand car classifieds site.
Our customers have been crying out for a value alternative to other players in the industry, and we have listened to their feedback to provide the perfect place to grow an automotive business. Our new-look motors proposition provides added value to dealers thanks to far greater advertising efficiency. We are completely committed to the success of our all our dealers and are confident this will increase their chances of making a sale, whether they have 10 cars or 5,000.
– Matt Barham, general manager of Gumtree UK
Under the new terms, Gumtree Motors and eBay will offer three selling packages to dealers. The basic package costs £298 a month and is aimed at dealerships selling cars with a value up to £4,000. The Plus package costs £398 a month and is targeted at dealers who want to choose which vehicles to promote. The premium package costs £898 per month and offers a wider range of options, including vehicle history checks and all-new showrooms for the eBay platform.
eBay and Gumtree have proved very successful when it comes to disrupting the second hand car business. In fact, to a great extent, they have now come to dominate. This combination makes a great deal of sense, and should have come into being a long time ago. eBay has owned Gumtree for many years and harnessing the potential of that connection is a no-brainer.
