At the recent Retail Without Borders conference, I sat down with David Swift, Global Development Manager at Trade Me, to discuss how to get started selling on Trade Me, New Zealand’s number one ecommerce platform.
Trade Me is a bit of a phenomenon in New Zealand, we don’t really have an equivalent in the UK as it’s so ingrained in Kiwi’s lives – practically every adult is a member and in a relatively small country of 4.9 million, 4.3 million are Trade Me members and a million visit the marketplace every single day.
There are plenty of shipping solutions which can get goods from Europe to New Zealand in about 10 days, and given the domestic culture that you can’t exchange goods for change of mind, returns are extremely low compared to what you might expect in Europe.
Domestic supply of products is quite limited in New Zealand, so Trade Me have recently expanded their International Seller’s programme. The UK is their most popular source for cross border trade, so if you’d like to get started selling on Trade Me in New Zealand, drop David Swift an email at [email protected]
