Amazon wants to encourage cross-border trade and offering the Amazon experience with greater convenience to more people. To that end they have launched a new international shopping app that will enable more people to buy goods on Amazon in their local currency and language.
You can now use the app to browse Amazon on your device in five languages (Spanish, English, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese and German). And now prices can be displayed in 25 local currencies too. More languages and currencies are expected to be added in due course. You can find out more here. You can see an image of the new filters above.
Of particular value is the ability to filter goods available in your location. So, if you’re an English speaker living in Spain and prefer to shop in English and perhaps even shop in sterling then you can much more easily locate goods of interest to that you can buy. The new international shopping app features will provide clear pricing, relevant shipping costs and even an estimate on import duty estimate where relevant. Amazon is also working on streaming international fulfilment and courier service that could also be useful to buyers.
This move will is predominantly of interest to shoppers who don’t have a full Amazon present in country (and that’s 25 members of the EU, for example) but it is also potentially of decent utility to people who have access to a dedicated marketplace but want specific goods from an overseas country.
The new features will be only available in the apps and not on the full website version of Amazon and will be valid for Apple and Android devices in your app store. It’s understood that the new features will be rolling out today, so make sure that you have the most up to date version of the app if you want to take advantage of the new features.
