The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is coming. Are you ready? And when it comes to Etsy on GDPR, and what merchants need to know, help is at hand. Esty has made information available here.
And here is what Etsy says:
It’s likely you’ve heard about the EUs upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This new privacy law that goes into effect on May 25, 2018 gives individuals more transparency, rights, and control around the way their information is used. It also provides rights for data deletion, access, and portability. We wanted to give you an update on Etsy’s approach to this new regulation, tools we’re creating to better manage member information, and resources for you as a business owner.

This is a very decent effort from Etsy on GDPR. Plenty of ecommerce merchants on Tamebay have said they are keen to know what they need to be doing and are looking to the marketplaces they use to give clear and unambiguous advice and guidance. In this sense Etsy is winning: nether Amazon, eBay, Paypal or others have made similar information available. Maybe such help will come in due course: GDPR will come into force on the 25th May 2018. So time is of the essence.
If you are looking for more information, especially relevant to eBay and Amazon related GDPR compliance, we’ve written a few posts, that you can find here. But this post, looking at FSB information that is general to SMEs, is likely the most useful.
GDPR is big news if you store any customer details. If you use marketplaces then they will take care of most of the concerns. But even then you should get tooled up with the information.
