Following the launch of Amazon Home Services in the US, you can now book a range of professional assemblers, handymen (or women), cleaners, plumbers, gardeners and installers through Amazon Home Services in the UK.

Bought a new item of furniture and detest the IKEA style instructions? Not a problem, you can book someone to assemble anything from a bed or desk to a rowing machine, snooker table or garden shed with Amazon Home Services. There’s a wide range of services available split into Assembly, Cleaning, Home Cinema, Home Improvement, Computer & Electronics, Garden & Outdoors and Smart Home Services.

Currently services are offered in Greater London, Southeast England, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Midlands, Southend, Reading Slough, Southampton, Watford, Medway, Colchester, Chelmsford, Guildford and a few other locations around the UK. Becoming an Amazon service provider is invite only and all service providers and technicians are required to be background checked and licensed if applicable. All services are backed by the Amazon Happiness Guarantee, so if you’re not satisfied Amazon will put things right.

You can buy a service on Amazon just as easily as a physical product, so if you want you can order the service at the same time as making a purchase knowing that you won’t have to screw your new bed together yourself. Just add the services in your basket and you’ll be able to select a date and time that suits you for service appointment at checkout. You only pay after the service is completed, and you’ll be charged by the payment method already stored in your Amazon account.

This makes a lot of sense for Amazon as it can give consumers confidence to buy a product knowing that they can book a trusted service provide to erect, assemble or install. 61% of brits say that they’d rather hire a professional to tackle home tasks than grab a screwdriver themselves but 77% say knowing who to trust is the hardest part of finding a professional. That’s why you can leave feedback for service providers on Amazon and they’ll get a percentage positive feedback score with all reviews receiving a one to five star rating from previous customers.

As with everything, the Amazon Home Services ratings aren’t without fault and service providers suffer from the same vagaries that sellers of products do. We’ve already seen on rating where the poor service provider got blamed for discovering a crack in an exercise bike and that’s certainly not their fault.

Undeserved Bad Amazon Home Services rating

Overall, Amazon customers seem pretty happy with service providers though. If you would like to become an Amazon Services Provider you can apply online. Fees run at 20% but you get real jobs with confirmed bookings rather than chasing leads and giving out quotes that may or may not book with you.
