Polish marketplace Allegro has announced that it has appointed Edyta Sidwa as its new head of customer engagement. The role, which closely resembles a marketing position, will be based at Allegro HQ in Warsaw and she is already in post.
They say that Sidwa will be responsible for coordinating all activities related to increasing customer engagement across the immensely popular Polish marketplace. She will be specifically focusing on the marketplace’s homepage offering in particular as well as developing the fashion category.
Sidwa joins the company from Marquard Media Polska, where she worked as a digital director for a year. She’s held various management roles at various media and ecommerce sites in Poland including O2.pl, Wp.pl and Agora over the years.
More about Allegro
Allegro is the largest ecommerce site in Poland and reportedly received in excessof 204 million visits to its desktop and mobile websites in June 2018. It’s particularly notable that it is more popular in Poland than both eBay and Poland and its popularity shows no sign of waning.
It’s a homegrown enterprise that enjoys 40% share of the total ecommerce market with more than 14m customers, of which 90% shop monthly on the site according to reports. For reference, Poland is a country of nearly 40 million people. It is an interesting ecommerce market because the share of retail that is made online is relatively low: only 3.3% in 2016, compared to 16.8% in the UK. Internet penetration is also lower.

Has UK sellers successfully managed to list onto Allegro? We are finding it a bit of a nightmare but the size of the market is a big incentive.
