Flikart have launched a new platform dedicated to refurbished goods in India ostensibly to replace eBay India. Known as 2GUD, the platform only has five categories although the promise of 400+ categories coming soon might be of more interest to old eBay India sellers. Currently however, it’s pretty much a closed shop so can hardly be called a ‘replacement’ for eBay India.
Dedicated to refurbished goods, 2GUD is currently only available on mobile although a desktop version of the site is coming soon. Available are Mobiles, Laptops, Tablets, Smart Watches and Accessories with a streaming media service tacked on the side.
The USP is that all products are certified and graded based on their physical condition and signs of usage with a”GUD gyaan” guarantee. Every product goes through about 47 checks and is sold in five grades based on their condition: Like New; Superb; Very Good; Good; Okay. Products come with a three to twelve month warranty and easy 10 day returns. The aim is to remove uncertainty from the refurbished market bringing trust, convenience and combined with affordability, accessibility and breadth of choice.
Currently, 2GUD is a diversion – although potentially lucrative for Flipkart if they succeed, the refurbish service is going to have massive overheads with stringent checking of each used product along with refurbish costs, distribution costs and warranty costs. It’s a competitive marketplace and they’re aiming for top end service as their USP to win consumer spending share.
What 2GUD is not is the promised 2nd hand marketplace to replace eBay India. With the promise of 400 categories to come, refurbished tech could shrink to be just a part of the new 2GUD marketplace but having launched with a refurbish service promise it’s inevitable that the same level of service won’t apply to all categories.
2GUD is one to watch, but India is still looking for an eBay replacement for sellers of 2nd hand goods and 2GUD isn’t too good an option yet.
