As we know, there is a whole lot of change and transition going on in the world of eBay Shops around the globe this year. It all depends on where you are located, but whether you call them eBay Shops or eBay Stores, it really does matter less and less, because the offering is under review. Changes are coming and you will have to adapt. First up, eBay Canada.
In the UK, the costs and benefits have been amended in 2018 and there has also been the introduction of some fairly stringent design criteria. In the past, you could happily personalise and brand an eBay Shop frontage and attract buyers. But in this age of streamlining (on a technological coding practical level) there is less opportunity for personalisation. There is also a diminishing aesthetic reason too.
Here’s what they say in their official announcement:
There was a lot of buzz about these new subscriptions among Canadian sellers at eBay Open this year, and we want to confirm that yes, these new subscriptions are still coming to eBay Canada! There may be a small delay that will see them launch early in 2019, but we’ll keep you updated, and provide more information as we have it.
– eBay Canada announcement
There is something really rather mysterious about all this. There doesn’t seem much reason to delay a long-trailed change, we reckon, especially to the non-essential eBay Stores facility on eBay Canada, unless you have another major change on the horizon. Sadly, as outsiders, we have no insight there. Is this an early indication of a big surprise from eBay coming in the months ahead?
But the sceptical, maybe cynical, observer on eBay affairs must surely be wondering what is going on. And the pragmatists must also be celebrating a maintenance of the status quo. Hopefully this is just a “there is nothing to see here” non-change and you, as a merchant and marketplace seller, have no actions to take. Let us know what the practicalities are.
