ShipStation launch Hermes delivery service with discounted rates

ShipStation have now launched their integration with Hermes which was first announced in March this year. ShipStation customers from the UK will now be able to access discounted rates for the Hermes delivery service through the ShipStation Carrier Services programme, which might otherwise be out of reach due to minimum volume requirements.

ShipStation Carrier Services is a platform feature that gives ShipStation customers access to carrier labels through a single online postage account.

This integrated relationship will enable new businesses and online entrepreneurs to benefit from a level playing field with their established, larger counterparts with access to the same great tools and discounted rates. Established merchants will be able to expand their delivery and fulfilment choices to fit their strategy and business needs.

Are the Hermes delivery service prices from ShipStation any good?

ShipStation users can take advantage of attractive, pre-negotiated rates and create labels for ParcelShop Drop Off. Pricing starts at £2.25 (excl. VAT, delivery to mainland UK) for small parcels. Medium-sized parcels between 2 and 5 kg start as low as £4.59. With over 4,500 locations, open 7 days a week, 92% of UK merchants live within 2 miles of a ParcelShop.

It’s worth pointing out that Hermes rates available through ShipStation are cheaper than the same service through eBay Delivery Powered by Shutl, even with a recent price drop announced by eBay. It’s somewhat surprising that a US based label provider who are breaking into the UK market can negotiate a better deal then eBay with their millions of registered sellers.

In addition to the ShipStation Carrier Services programme, ShipStation will continue to support customers with the seamless connection of existing Royal Mail, DHL, FedEx, and UPS accounts into the ShipStation platform.

    that would indeed be surprising, but i doubt it would raise a single eyebrow to find ebay actually got a much better deal, and skimmed all the savings for themselves.

  3. Still using Royal Mail and all going well, tried to get an account with MyHermes but they were useless, if there not bothered about chasing up to get a new account what would they be like if I had a problem.

    MyHermes for a small parcel using Parcel2go is £2.09 +VAT (No Insurance)

    Royal Mail 2nd class is £2.14 +VAT (No Insurance)

    Advantage of RM is using Click & Drop integration with eBay & Amazon and free collection of mail.

Except you fail to point out the subscription costs (£7 + VAT for up to 50 shipments, £23 +VAT for 500 per month) which more than outweigh the headline rate ‘saving’ of 8p cheaper per parcel relative to ebay which has has no subscription charges. So overall not really ‘cheaper’ at all! Arguably the only ‘surprise’ here is the lack of attention to detail in the coverage, not usually a pitfall of the authors on here.

  5. Using P2G unfortunately the tracking code supplied by them for ebay is not accepted and eBay will not cover you. So had to mess around getting the actual couriers number. to upload.
    Our experience of Hermes is that we would lose a lot less money throwing parcels directly in our local river.
    We had an item valued at £39.49 go missing after 2 weeks of arguing with Hermes we found the item left in a safe place was actually a customers blue bin.
    Left at 9.20 am and it was emptied at 10.20am as we had found a number of items were supposedly left in safe place over the previous few months never to surface again we demanded an investigation which is when we were told a Bin is deemed a dry safe place.
    Hence we moved carrier and we will never go back

  6. with proper tracking information – regardless of the courier we have NEVER not been covered by ebay.

    In fact, often they refund the buyer while still protecting me.

    this is an excellent price by Shipstation. We have always been a fan of Hermes. they aint perfect but they do get it right most of the time and you cant beat the price for the type of packets we send out. They are also reasonably good when making claims.

    You claim on an open forum that it is a site for “pirates and scallywags” yet you have the audacity to criticise my post for giving out the wrong message?

  8. We haven’t been covered by eBay or PayPal as a seller for “missing items” from a shipment. I personally pack the antiques we sell, I know if I put it in the shipping crate or not!
    Strangely, it’s usually the most expensive item “missing” from the shipment too.
