Flipkart Big Billion Day 2018 sale coming in October

Indian marketplace Flipkart has reported its Big Billion Day (BBD) event will be returning this year with deep discounts across the shop with a focus in 2018 on household appliances. Big Billion Day is scheduled to return between the 1st and 4th of October. In part BBD is a forerunner of the diwali season which comes up in November.

With last year’s successful Big Billion Day, Flipkart has more reasons to top the previous event for all its loyal customers. And since success is a trend for all sellers within the Flipkart platform, more will join the big event. More sellers mean more items to choose from. So expect this year’s Big Billion Day to be a real madness of sale.

Although this is good news for merchants who use the marketplace, it looks like BBD will be used as a vehicle for Flipkart to heavily promote their private label products. They are a retailer in their own right and have been developing a range of private label products which attract strong margins.

Private label is a very big chunk of our plan for BBD this year. The three categories where our private label play will be aggressive are large appliances, furniture and electronic accessories.

Launched in late 2017 with microwaves, the private label MarQ has since added washing machines and air conditioners. Reportedly, private label products account for 15% of all sales when they are offered. They will also soon add refrigerators and smart televisions to MarQ. The MarQ products are usually priced 20-30% lower than other similar products.

Flipkart finalised its acquisition by Walmart in recent weeks, as we reported here, and has also launched new marketplace for refurbished goods to replace eBay India.

Will you be offering discounted products on BBD? It’s one of the biggest sales event during the year in India.
