Bol.com has started selling alcohol online

Bol.com, the biggest online retailer and marketplace in the Netherlands and Belgium has opened up a new selling vertical on its sites offering an assortment of alcohol products. The new section on their website represents the company’s first foray into the sphere of food and drink.

Starting this week, carefully screened and accredited partners can begin to offer their range of drinks through bol.com. The range is expected to include wine, craft beer, champagne, whisky and other spirits.

Many of the products come from retailer Gall & Gall owned by Ahold Delhaize, just like bol.com. Other partners include Belgian Beer Factory, Tasting Collection, Okhuyse and AH.nl

We realize very well that selling drinks is a specialism and that it requires extensive knowledge of the range and experience in the distribution where age control is important. That is why we have chosen to use our network at this launch and to work together with a select number of specialized partners. They offer their product range and product information via our platform and take care of the stock and the delivery. We help these partners to sell online and be accessible with their assortment for the customers of bol.com. Together we create a store that offers a wide range and extensive information in combination with the convenience and service that customers expect from us.

They also say that all their partners already have extensive experience in selling and supplying booze and, together with their carriers, ensure compliance with the age restrictions related to buying alcoholic drinks when making deliveries and proof of age is required. In the shop bol.com also displays the NIX18 logo, even in search results, bringing the lowest legal age of 18 years well to the attention of shoppers with the aim of preventing underage drinking.
