Amazon Pay is set to be available at petrol stations, restaurants and stores

Amazon Pay is set to introduce its digital wallet payments at petrol stations,  restaurants and brick-and-mortar stores.

The marketplace are poised to promote their seamless payment system in physical places that offer goods and services, which won’t present competition to their offering, as initially reported by The Wall Street Journal.

It remains unclear whether, Amazon Pay, which was introduced in 2007 to allow shoppers to pay with their Amazon account on external sellers’ websites will be used in the marketplace’s scan-as-you-go fashion or by merely tapping a PDQ machine with a smartphone.

Last year, Amazon reported that more than 33 million shoppers are using their Amazon Pay across 170 international markets. The marketplace’s vice president Patrick Gauthier has put the success of the payment method to simplicity, bringing the ease and familiarity of payments to merchants across the globe that can pay instantly using their card data that is already securely stored in their Amazon account.

These news come as Amazon announced this week launch of new service that will see shoppers making hands-free Skype calls via Amazon Echo. The marketplace are currently running Amazon Echo devices cheaper, which launched in new colours including sandstone, heather grey, charcoal and walnut colours as well as red edition which is ready to pre-order for a release on December 5 to boost the demand for their technology. As Amazon are investing heavily in promoting their devices, will we see those gadgets come in handy in consumers’ day-to-day lives?

  1. Applied to put Amazon pay on my own web site weeks ago and have still not been authorised, not suprising as having to deal with Amazon Customer service.

Applied to use Stripe last night and had it set up on my website in under an hour and took first payments today.

Average stripe fee has been 1.8%
