eBay Black Friday deals may be cheaper on eBay

Today is Thanksgiving Day, the day before Black Friday, although here in the UK the average person isn’t even aware of what our US friends are being thankful for (If you’re wondering, it’s roughly equivalent to the UK Harvest Festival). Today it’s also a major shopping day with eBay Black Friday deals in full swing.

Nevertheless Thanksgiving is best known as the day before Black Friday, traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year… although I’ve met a few people who mistakenly thought that Black Friday was last week due to all the sales starting early.

Now the deals are really hotting up and eBay have promised four deals a day at 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 8pm but how good ar the deals on offer? Which? did some research suggesting that the deals from retailers including Amazon, Currys PC World, Argos and John Lewis Black Friday deals might not be the cheapest and today we spotted the 8am deal and discovered the same.

eBay‘s hot deal for 8am was the Samsung S8, offered from Argos at £389.95 – 36% off according to the eBay listing. A quick search on the world’s favourite shopping site found the exact same product (also sold as ‘New’) for £295.99 sold by gadget-outlet.

So far today Argos have sold 3 handsets whilst gadget-outlet have sold 5 (two grey, the same colour as Argos, two silver and on black). It would appear that some buyers either aren’t seeing eBay’s spotlight deal or are doing the sensible thing and shopping around to see if there’s a better price on offer.

If like most of the country you’re being bombarded with emails from retailers and marketplaces offering deals, take five minutes to decide, if it’s a product that you want, if the deal is really a great offer and check to see if you can find the same product on sale from a different retailer at a better price.

In eBay’s defence, they aren’t a retailer and so have to partner with eBay sellers in order to secure stock, price and advance notice of the deals that they’re going to promote. This means that they having the very best price on offer won’t always be easy.
