Amazon welcome new delivery robot for Prime members in the US

Amazon announced yesterday a launch of the new delivery robot for Prime-eligible members in the US.

The Amazon Scout is designed to navigate through streets to deliver goods to Amazon Prime shoppers. Each six-wheeled delivery robot will be accompanied by an Amazon staff member to ensure they can safely travel around any pedestrians or pets it might come across.

The marketplace will be piloting the new service in Snohomish County, located to the north of Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle, Washington. Only six of Scouts delivery robots will be used first.

Customers in the US will be able to receive their deliveries during the daylight hours only between Monday and Friday.

We are happy to welcome Amazon Scout to our growing suite of innovative delivery solutions for customers and look forward to taking the learnings from this first neighbourhood so Amazon Scout can, over time, provide even more sustainability and convenience to customer deliveries.
-Sean Scott, vice president of Amazon Scout

We are delighted to welcome Amazon Scout into our community. Similar to Amazon, we are always looking for new ways to better deliver service to our residents.”
-Dave Somers country executive of Snohomish

This news mark Amazon’s jump on a bandwagon with other retail businesses and suppliers including Domino’s Pizza and myHermes who have also in the past tested autonomous deliveries via a six-wheeled Starship Robot akin to Amazon Scout.

Yet, it remains to be seen whether the new delivery robot will see a general adoption or remain a hopeful idea of future delivery technology.
