Google Pay on eBay Payments is coming soon as a natural extension of payment choice for buyers following the roll out of Apple Pay back in October. Whilst Apple is a relatively popular mobile platform it’s not the only player in town and Google Pay on Android probably doubles the addressable audience in the US for mobile payments on eBay.
Users will be able to complete purchases wtih Google Pay on eBay Payments via the app, mobile web and on desktop from sellers participating in managed payments. Customers who have the Google Pay digital wallet will also be able to complete purchases on desktop, regardless of operating system or device.
Since eBay began accepting Apple Pay as a payment option in our eBay managed payments experience, they have seen over 1 in 10 iOS transactions made through this method. eBay aim to provide the same convenience to owners of Android devices and other Google Pay users. The global market share of Android is 87% and, together, these two digital wallets have a combined 111 million global users.

eBay’s managed payments experience allows users to check out without leaving the platform, using the payment method of their choice. In its first year, managed payments is already delivering value to buyers through an improved shopping experience and to sellers through new selling tools and streamlined costs.
Google Pay on eBay Payments will be available to Android users starting in early April, joining Apple Pay as the latest payment option on the platform. Both options are currently only accessible when buying from sellers enrolled in eBay’s new payments experience, and will be increasingly available to shoppers as the program grows to process more volume in additional geographies.
eBay also confirmed today that they are currently working to integrate PayPal into eBay Payments as well as looking to expand the managed payments experience beyond the US this year.
This is the first news update coming out of eBay HQ regarding eBay Payments since their last update in October, three weeks after the programme launched.
