FedEx have announced earlier this week the appointment of Don Colleran as president and CEO. He will join the post on the 16th of March.
“Don has the depth of talent and global experience to lead the FedEx Express organization. With his commercial focus and global mindset, he is the right choice to execute our key strategies and deliver for our customers, team members and shareholders.”
– Raj Subramaniam, president and chief operating officer, FedEx Corp
Don has been with FedEx for almost 30 years, holding various executive level positions in several operating companies and international regions. He began his FedEx career as an international sales manager in Philadelphia before moving to the Asia Pacific to lead the region’s sales group. In 2000, he was promoted to president of FedEx Express Canada prior to moving back to the US in 2003 to serve as senior vice president of international sales. In 2006, Don was appointed executive vice president of global sales. In 2017, he was named executive vice president and chief sales officer of FedEx Corp.
A native of Massachusetts, Don earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of New Hampshire. He serves on the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Advisory Board, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and as a director of ABM Industries and EastGroup Properties. He is also a member of the American Chamber of Commerce and recognised as one of the Irish America magazine’s “Business 100.”

It would be interesting to see what approach Don takes to compete with Amazon. FedEx still rules International Shipping. But for making inroads in the domestic sector of each country would be a big task as Amazon is the giant in that space.
