JD.com have launched a global electronics online store on Google Express, the online shopping site owned by the search engine of Alphabet Inc.

JD.com’s new website, Joybuy offer a range of electronic products such as phones, electronics as well as general merchandise as clothing and sports equipment. The majority of lister products are from small-sized merchants and priced under £75.

The launch comes after Google invested $550m (£416m) in JD.com in June 2018. The two businesses also share several common partners in the US and Asia. Both have invested in Go-Jek and Indonesian ride-hailing company. JD.Com also received funding from Walmart, which until recently was one of several companies to operate online storefronts on Google Express.

JD.com haven’t revealed much about the launch but they say that they’re currently testing Joybuy’s operations.

What we can share at this stage is that we are conducting test operations during this early phase.”
– spokesperson, JD.com

The launch opens an opportunity for UK merchants to start trading on the marketplace and deliver items that aren’t available in China. It also would allow Chinese sellers to take hold of the non-Chinese market and expand their trading beyond their borders. Overall, the introduction of Joybuy looks like a beneficial deal for both countries aiming to reach a broader spectrum of audience.
