This year, we want to open our own online marketplace,” is how Douglas’ CEO summarises the company’s plans that could see merchants trading on the German marketplace.

Speaking at Duesseldorf Wirtschaftspublizistischen Vereinigung event, Tina Mueller CEO at Douglas announced that the German perfume and cosmetics retailer is considering launching a marketplace this year. She explains the attraction of the marketplace as a magnet for customers “who spend a lot of money on beautiful things.”

What is Douglas?

Douglas is a perfume and cosmetics retailer based on Düsseldorf, Germany. The retailer offers approximately 35,000 products in more than 1,900 stores and franchised outlets in 19 European countries. These include Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Monaco, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovakia, Norway and France. The company aims to expand into more markets, with plans to launch in Belgium and Italy.

In 2018, the company’s online revenue was worth €423m (£362m). This year, they’re expected to see an increase in sales to about €500bn (£428bn). In the first quarter of the current financial year, the online business soared up by 36.9%.
