When eBay scrapped short duration fixed price listings and mandated Good ‘Til Cancelled 30 day listings, some sellers rightly complained that they would be double billed for Good ‘Til Cancelled Listings fees in months with 31 days under some circumstances. This was a relatively rare edge case and mainly a concern for sellers that listed on the 1st of the month and used their full free listing allowance.
We noted this edge case on Tamebay and now eBay have come up with a solution. They will be changing the renewal schedule for Good ‘Til Cancelled listings from every 30 days to one renewal per calendar month. The exact day of the month that the renewals will take place will depend on the initial listing start date.
If a listing has run continuously since it was created, the initial listing start date is the day of the month it was created. If a listing has been ended and then relisted by you, the initial listing start date is the day of the month that it was last relisted manually or through a tool.
For example:
- If the initial listing start date was on the 1st to 28th of a month, it will now always renew on the same day.
- If the initial listing start date was the 29th, 30th or 31st of a month, the exact duration will be adjusted in shorter months, but move back to the original day in all longer months.
Starting from 1 July 2019, eBay will migrate all existing Good ‘Til Cancelled listings to this new schedule meaning that no seller will ever be double billed Good ‘Til Cancelled Listings fees in a month from that date on.

About time they did this. Being a low volume seller that produces their own stock and always near the 250 per month limit the 30 thing has always been a pain in the rear.
I must admit the Good till Cancelled is a pain, I would rather have 7 days back on fixed price. So all I do now is put on x number of listings as a auction with “best offer” so I can get 7 days……then top up with some good till cancelled……..and after 7 days I take the good till cancelled off.
If there has been no interest in 7 days on buy it now, and they go back in the relist schedule for 2 weeks time.
30 days is good for those selling 300 of the same item to my mind, but not so good for those selling collectables as after 3 or 4 days they are lost way in the lists ….even with all the item specifics filled out, it is harder for folks to find them.
Anyone else experienced a big sales drop in April since the GTC kicked in? Used to list items on 7 days which attracted a kind of “urgency” to order. Down more than 10%.
Profits, sales, click throughs, impressions and page views are all substantially down for us on eBay at present. The only thing to have gone up are our eBay fees and returns. Go figure.
