Vodafone 5G to go live on 3rd July 2019 in multiple UK cities

Vodafone has become the first mobile operator to announce a launch date for their 5G service and the first to announce 5G roaming in four European countries. Even better, for both business and consumer customers, Vodafone 5G will be priced the same as 4G.

The price for Vodafone 5G being the same as for 4G contracts is truly superb, but beware of the data allowance you negotiate in your contract. With the absolutely blistering download speeds that come with 5G – up to 10 times as fast as 4G, with the ability to download TV box sets or movies in a matter of seconds – you might burn through data faster than you realise as you become accustomed to accessing more content than ever before. Make sure you get a contract with enough data to fully enjoy using 5G and consider a contract upgrade when you get your first 5G handset.

The go live date for Vodafone 5G is 3 July 2019 in the UK. Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and London will be among the first cities in the world to receive Vodafone 5G with Birkenhead, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Guildford, Newbury, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Warrington and Wolverhampton following later in the year.

Newbury is the home of Vodafone UK so it’s no surprise they are high on the list to get 5G first. Wolverhampton is the home of eBay Retail Revival in the UK, so the businesses eBay are partnering with will be among the first in the country to have access to Vodafone 5G for running their marketplace operations, either via their mobile or via Vodafone 5G broadband routers.

Vodafone will also offer 5G roaming in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain over the summer.

Vodafone 5G Handsets and 5G Routers

A choice of 5G smartphones will be available to buy online or in Vodafone stores over the summer. The first smartphone goes on sale next week.

Vodafone will also offer a 5G router for use in the home and office to give customers without a fixed line connection high-speed broadband access. It is also ideal for those customers replacing their home or business broadband; needing a second connection; or who require instant Internet access at an outdoor event.

5G compatible devices available ahead of the Vodafone 5G switch-on

There are a number of handsets available to purchase in advance of Vodafone 5G being switched on. These include:

  • he Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G smartphone, which will initially be available exclusively from Vodafone online and in store from 23 May 2019;
  • The Samsung S10 5G and Huawei Mate 20 X (5G), which will be available for pre-order later this month; and
  • The Huawei Mate X (5G) and an exclusive 5G home router, called the 5G Gigacube, which will launch this summer.

The new Vodafone 5G new price plans will be unveiled next week to coincide with the availability of the first handset. Handsets can initially be used over 4G, and will be able to use 5G when the Vodafone 5G network is switched on and all manufacturer software updates are completed.

“We started our 5G journey more than three years ago. We led the way in setting 5G standards to ensure phones and networks work well together. We upgraded our masts to be able to take 5G without disruption. And we were the first UK company to test 5G over our all-fibre core fixed and mobile network.

This is important. It means we can today announce the largest launch of 5G in the UK and be the first to announce 5G roaming. It means that UK businesses can lead the world in adopting 5G to boost productivity and attract investment. It means consumers can get the fastest mobile speeds ever, and it means that our public sector will be able to adopt new services to improve healthcare, social services and housing.”

  1. Is Tamebay shilling for the Chinese government now?

    There is a vital difference between capitalist globalisation and corporatist globalism. It would appear that Tamebay prefer corporate globalism.

  2. Yeah if you could finish just getting normal signal for basic phone calls to rural areas sorted first, then I might give a sh*t.
