Boris Johnson becomes Prime Minister promising Brexit by 31st October

No primary category set

A new Prime Minister comes today, but the maths remains the same no matter how much Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, better know as Boris Johnson, insists that Brexit will take place on the 31st of October, with a deal or without a deal. Largely the make up of the House of Commons remains the same and the EU aren’t keen on renegotiating Mrs May’s deal.

This brings yet another period of uncertainty for businesses not knowing if Brexit will take place on the 31st of October and if so whether a deal can be stitched together or if a no deal Brexit happens.

It appears likely that the DUP will renew their confidence and supply agreement with the Conservative Party under Boris Johnson. It also appears likely that the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn will try for a vote of no confidence although they’ll bide their time waiting for the most inopportune moment to do so.

European Commission’s newly [s]elected President Ursula von der Leyen said she looks forward to having a good working relationship with Boris Johnson, but stated that there are still challenging times ahead. She has also intimated that she would be willing to accept yet another lengthy extension to Brexit, but even that is problematic as she doesn’t officially become EU President until the 1st of November, the day after Brexit will take place according to multiple promises by Boris.

Multiple sources in the EU from incoming President Ursula to the French President Macron have said that there’s no reopening the deal but there is a possibility to make changes to the Political Declaration setting out the desired future relationship between the UK and the EU.

Boris Johnson is good at winning elections – he won the Mayor of London election twice, both times beating the incumbent Ken Livingstone who looked unbeatable. Now it’s time to see if he can win as Prime Minister and bulldoze Brexit through Parliament and through the EU.

Having prepared multiple times for Brexit, what are you plans now that there’s a possible no deal just as the peak period in the run up to Christmas. Or do you feel that Boris will be as stymied as Mrs May and the whole thing will drag on into 2020?

  1. there will be a deal
it may be a fudge and brexit in name only,
but a deal will be done ,
its a chance for all parties to save face and step back from the brink

  2. Honestly I do not think he has a chance. He faces exactly the same maths as T May, and he can’t get it through parliament, he can’t get no deal through parliament, and he will be gone by the 1st of November.
He can’t call an election, Tories would be out on their ear, Labour would hook up with Nationalists and we would have even more chaos. I do not think it could actually get much more of a mess..

Am not planning anything, had it with Referendum in Scotland years of it and the brexit shambles. Keep calm and carry on.

Big corporates and banks will tell Boris what to do as normal anyway.

  3. I think Brexit is the worst idea, global trade is so intertwined and to leave a bloc to only get a worse deal with them seems very odd…..and also not to now benefit from the Free Trade Deals the EU now has (that it did not have in 2016).

Personally I prefer to sell my items to overseas, the EU of course and beyond. I find them generally politer, pay quicker, and seem grateful when their goods arrive quickly.

I only hope that the increased cost of shipping to the EU is not prohibitive to kill sales. Sadly sales to the EU are already suffering under the threat of this Tory euro-sceptic itch scratching exercise.

And many will note that this Etonian jolly jape is a great fun for those in charge, those with deep pockets who can withstand the financial consequences, the rest of us will battle on hoping to make it ….only to face the next political fiasco.

  4. There are only two options:

    1. Accept the backstop
    2. No deal

The backstop has been voted against and is unlikely to get through, the EU are saying that they will not budge on the backstop.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work it out. We leave on the 31st without a deal and there really is no need to speak to the EU.

There will be many issues for both the UK and the EU, come the 1st November they will start to try and resolve them, but it is a two way street.

It would be better to resolve some of the issues before hand, like how it will effect UK citizens currently living in Europe, but likewise, the EU need to negotiate on their citizens living in the UK. Some things should be quite simple to resolve, it is only the ego’s that create problems.

  5. Still waiting for £2 fish and chips in London, the big Brexit payout.

    Not happened so far !
