I recently got an email informing me that Amazon Prime Video would no longer be supported on my Sony Media Player. In future if I want to watch Prime Video then I’ll have to opt for a Fire TV stick or similar device. To soften the blow, Amazon offered a discount code to get one half price.
The problem is that older devices are increasing difficult to support and in truth the Amazon Prime Video experience through the Sony Media Player is significantly worse than that through the Fire TV Stick.
The one thing I found strange is that the discount is only valid for the cheaper £39.99 Fire TV Stick. I was going to treat myself to the Ultra HD £49.99 Fire TV Stick seeing as it was £20 off, but no dice – the offered discount code doesn’t work.
If you do have an older device that you’re using for Amazon Prime Video, it’s worth considering upgrading to a new Fire TV Stick, especially now that they come with Alexa Voice Control. Keep an eye out for emails if your device is no longer supported as it’s likely you too will get this offer.
“Amazon will no longer be supporting the Prime Video app on your Sony Blu-ray Disc Player / Sony Network Media Player / Sony Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System / Sony AV Receiver as of September 26, 2019. We are continually upgrading our service and this occasionally means we can no longer support certain device models.
To help you to continue streaming your favourite content, we’re offering you a £20 discount on Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote. Plug it into your HDTV and start streaming in minutes. To redeem, add a Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote to your cart and enter the promo code below at checkout. This offer ends on November 1, 2019. Terms and conditions apply.”
