Amazon have announced new global FBA requirements for all lithium batteries and products which include lithium batteries. A Lithium Battery Test Summary will need to be uploaded to Amazon by the 1st of January 2020.
This will impact a ton of sellers – just about any product from watches to smartphones, laptops and toys contain lithium batteries so if you sell electronics you’ll want to assess your entire product range before the end of the year.
The test standard being used is UN 38.3. This standard includes eight tests: Altitude Simulation; Thermal Test; Vibration; Shock; External Short Circuit; Impact; Overcharge; and Forced Discharge.
These tests will be beyond the means of most Amazon merchants who merely buy and sell and if that’s you then your best recourse is to ensure your FBA stock is depleted before the 1st of January 2020 and fufil orders yourself in future. For those that manufacture their own products, you will need to obtain the Lithium Battery Test Summary from your factory.

“Effective January 1, 2020, battery manufacturers and distributors must provide a lithium battery test summary, per a United Nations standard known as UN 38.3. This new global requirement applies to lithium batteries and products containing lithium batteries
When selling on FBA, you are responsible for obtaining this test summary for any ASIN that you sell. Failure to provide this summary may prevent you from selling the product on Amazon. In addition, any units of this ASIN in our fulfillment centers may be disposed of at your expense.”
