For a whole 24 hours starting today, Tuesday the 3rd of December eBay UK will be once again donating money to The Princes Trust for purchases made through their UK site on this years Giving Tuesday. Donations of 5p for each transaction or 10p for every purchase of two or more items will be made by eBay at no extra cost to buyers or sellers. The money raised will go towards The Trusts Enterprise programme which aids progression towards a brighter future by supporting the business ideas of young entrepreneurs through training, funding and resources.

As It turns out, Brits are quite giving around the festive season as shown in new figures that state more is being donated every year to charities especially around the months of November and December. Surprisingly this includes throughout the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Perhaps this shows that Black Friday bargain seekers aim to give some of that money saved to good causes.
The Princes Trust will also benefit from all proceeds of an eBay & Trunki collaboration. The limited-edition Charlie the Dragon suitcase is exclusively available to buy on eBay and one eager fan will have the chance to bid on an auctioned Trunki signed by the famous Shane Williams MBE, Welsh Rugby icon.

Hmmm does anyone really trust eBay that they will in fact donate what they claim? Who’s to say they only donate 1p per transaction, if that much? There’s no way for anyone to know how many transactions they’re taking and they won’t divulge those numbers. As with everything they do, this is probably a scheme for them to take in more orders under the guise that they’re giving to charity. eBay is a conniving company to the core and they’ll do anything for money.
Well done eBay, but you won’t be donating anything from my sales today because sadly you haven’t found me any buyers, despite jumping through you hoops, paying your shop fees, letting you gouge my postage, having to pay more to promote my listings should they sell and providing me with next to no customer support. But great idea nonetheless.

Maybe if them and their likes actually had some sort of social responsibility for the places they profit from and paid the right levels of tax instead of actively avoiding it at every opportunity we might not need so many charities and trusts in the so called 5th biggest economy in the world.
