Amazon makes same day delivery faster for some U.S. cities

Amazon have recently announced that Prime members in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, and Dallas can now enjoy faster Same Day Delivery on up to 3 million items.

Up to 3 million items across dozens of categories that are marked “Today by” can now be ordered for delivery throughout the day—all with the goal of giving Prime members the most convenient shopping experience in retail while saving them time and money. Members can also order as late as midnight and have their orders on their doorstep the next morning before heading out for the day by selecting the “Overnight by 8am” delivery option. If a customer selects to have their order delivered overnight, drivers will arrive between 4:30am-8am, which is noted on the product detail page and again at checkout.

According to Amazon the faster delivery speeds help them lower carbon emissions and meet their Climate Pledge which will see them zero carbon by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. Because the facilities are in close proximity to customers there is a reduced need for aircraft transport and so decreases the distance drivers have to travel to deliver to customers.

Consumers love fast delivery and having same-day and one-day delivery options are appealing. Giving consumers the option to have their items at such a rapid rate could be the deciding factor on whether they give you business. Amazon Prime offering such speedy services make them stand out which is why merchants selling on their own websites from their own warehouses need a way to compete.

How can merchants compete with Amazon Prime same day delivery?

Unless you have your own driver and van standing by, the solution is to use On the dot with their 5,000 drivers who are backed by the UK’s largest same day delivery company, CitySprint. On the dot delivery for every type of company from supermarkets to florists and even the ever popular cupcake delivery from bakeries.
