This month, eBay have launched the eBay Vintage Hub on eBay UK, a paradise of quality vintage clothes and accessories catering to the ever increasing desire for sustainable fashion coupled with a yearning for designs of yesteryear.
As well as shopping by clothing category (e.g. coats, dresses, swimsuits, wedding dresses) or accessory type (Bags, belts, hats, umbrellas), you can also shop by decade so if you want to complete a look with a style from a particular period (1920s and 1930s all the way through to the 1990s) you can narrow your selection to the fashion you’re looking for.
Vintage is part of the ever growing want for sustainable fashion, rejecting the fast fashion manufactured in factories of unknown working conditions coupled with the desire to recycle and save the planet from unneeded waste. Plus of course many items manufactured from times gone by are made from superior materials and, just by virtue of surviving, have proved their value and longevity.
eBay has seen a 600% rise in searches for ‘sustainable fashion’ since 2016 and in the past 12 months alone consumers have splashed out £187million on pre-loved clothing on eBay. It’s all too easy when you’ve refreshed your wardrobe to put your old clothes in a charity rag collection bag or worse throw them in the bin when there’s a good chance that they can still be turned into cash on eBay.
With the rise in sustainable fashion, it’s no surprise that the eBay for Business Award for Sustainability Seller of the year went to Sheanies Vintage. Sean and Liam Sheahan had left their jobs to go travelling when their father died and they suddenly needed a new venture in life. With some used clothes they opened an eBay store and started trading full time in sourcing trending used fashion from all over the world. Fashion is often viewed as an environmental disaster with clothes often consigned to landfill, but with a focus on recycling fashion and putting used items back into the market Sheanies Vintage aims to satisfy fashionistas who have an eco-conscience.

I would be curious how this page was “launched.” Did eBay link to it from a prominent place? There was no official announcement on the eBay UK board, and this is not a new page. It is one of the old category-based, structured data “browse pages” in the “b” URL subdirectory. These pages were pushed out to Google to combat eBay’s ongoing SEO problems that began with a manual action penalty in 2014. They are the backbone of eBay’s unique structured data framework, now referred to as, “multi-aspect guidance.”
Is it just for ladies’ vintage? Nothing for men’s or children’s vintage?
