Tell us about Sync with Connex, we understand you founded the company?
My previous employer hired an intern to type about 100 orders a day into QuickBooks. The company had over a hundred programmers. I asked myself; couldn’t one of them write software to automatically sync orders into QuickBooks? The company made software that helped move data in and out of databases, surely there must be a way.
I left that employer in late 2009 and founded JMA Web Technologies in January of 2010.
In February of 2011, I met a programmer who showed me how to integrate QuickBooks with an online store. JMA built several connectors and they achieved some commercial success, but the connectors only worked with a few solutions. In January of 2013, Intuit announced the Intuit Partner Platform and their plans to promote QuickBooks Online more prominently. With this new technology, JMA could build several connectors quickly with no need to install files because data was transferred through the web.
Seeing a strong business opportunity, almost no competition in integrating QuickBooks Online, and desire to make QuickBooks simpler to integrate, I built Connex for QuickBooks Online. No one should type several hundred orders into QuickBooks. Business owners should focus on what they do best, which is selling their products and services.”
After the tremendous success of our QuickBooks Online integration, our business released Connex for QuickBooks. The software provides the same functionality of Connex for QuickBooks Online, but works with all versions of QuickBooks Desktop.
COVID-19 has impacted just about every company in the world, what was it’s impact on Sync with Connex?
I think that is has impacted us in a positive way. We saw a drop in sales in April, but they quickly bounced back to normal levels by the end of the month.
Our staff has worked remotely, since the company was founded and during the pandemic I hired additional staff and expanded hours for existing staff. No employee was furloughed. Our system for contacting trial users has improved. More users can get in touch with sales and support, during their trial. Our staff performed some data entry tasks, so we can follow up with users whose trials expired. We also found time to work on our new user interface.
What problems do you see facing retailers more widely as they recover from the pandemic impact?
Some employees are taking on more responsibility, which includes Accounting. By automating this business process, there is no need to train them; you can do more with less.

Stock sync sounds great, could you tell us more about it?
Our tool will sync your stock levels and price changes from QuickBooks to your website. Our software matches the QuickBooks item name to your website SKU. For Shopify users, we allow you to map the inventory site from QuickBooks. You could sync a stock quantity of five from your Boston site to the Shopify Boston site.
The stock updates run on a scheduled basis. Our system will notify you, if the stock changes fail to map.
